PLIGHT OF PAKISTANI MOTHERS AND THEIR
NEEDS
1: 92% of the Pakistani mothers are illiterate and unskilled.
She completely
depends on the income of her husband or her elder son
(if she has) for the welfare of the family and fulfilling
other personal
needs. And if her husband or any other person from the family earn
345$ annually and is the only earning
person of a family, then how can their medical, educational and other individual needs be fulfilled. And
in this critical situation the following problems occurs:
a)
From the total 149 million population of Pakistan, women are 83.44 million 56%.
b)
The people living below the percentage of poor conditions are
67% of the total population.
c) Annual birth rate is 3.5%
d)
The deaths occur in the period of pregnancy are at least 30
thousand annually.
e) During pregnancy period 38% mothers
died due to lack of food.
f) During Pregnancy period, mothers die due to lack of medical
treatment are 62%
g) At
the moment girls below the age of 15 years from the total
149 million populations, which will become mothers in future
are
45.892 million.
This women needs good nutritional packages, medical care and sound education.
By
acquiring skills, this women can assist their husbands in the up-keep and welfare of
the family . If both mothers and fathers are jointly involved in income generation they will find a way to
overcome the problems of disappointment and helplessness. Hence, they will be able to nourish their family better and
nurture their children in a better way.
We also need to think about the 45.892 million girls from
the total 149 million which will become mother in Future. So that these 45.892 million girls are not compelled to live a helpless
life like their mothers .We must work towards providing facilities for good education, empowering this
new generation of mothers with good skills.
PLANING FOR THE PAKISTANI
WOMEN/MOTHERS
According to my opinion if we want to plan for Pakistan or any
other developing country , we can categorize
women in three groups.
1: The girls (below 15) which will become women or mothers in
future.
2:
The women, as mothers fulfilling their responsibilities.
3: The women that were mothers or wives but now
they are widows and
others ignored by their children and families. (These are 5.18
million from the total 149 million
population of Pakistan.)
In Pakistan, there are four groups of families existing.
1:
First group belongs those family where the mother is in no way contributing to the financial needs
of the family , where only the man earn the means for sustenance. The problems facing the women in this
category of family are of different kinds.
2: Second family is the group where the
father and mother are jointly contributing to the welfare of the family. And the women belonging to this group
have different problems and needs.
3: The third group is those where the Mother is the only source
of income. In other words the women are earning to feed the family. The needs and problems of women in
this category are different.
4: Fourthly, in this group neither the mother nor the father is
working, maybe due to health or handicap situation. The women belonging to this group have different problems comparatively
with above three groups.
PROSTITUTION, AGONY OF A PAKISTANI GIRL CHILD, INHUMANITY TO WOMEN
Today,
I am going to draw your attention towards a
majority;
100 million or 67% of the total 149 million people
in Pakistan, who are in living in pitiable
conditions. And the problems which the women are facing from the 67% are as follows:
1: 98% of these
women are illiterate.
2: From the total population of 149 million, 14.5
million women are those
who spent their childhood and youth in their parent's home and still are with them in old age. Parents of these 14.5 million
women are not able to marry their daughters due to poor condition. In Pakistan,
when parents want to marry their daughters, parents of the men set some conditions that must be fulfilled at the time of marriage
by the parents of the women. For example, the parents of the bride will have to give the furniture and other necessities for
the home which is a hundred thousand rupees (Pakistani currency). More times than not, these parents are not able to fulfill
the conditions of the bridegroom's parents.
3: Often times, the beautiful girls of poor parents
are
set to be sold to the wealthy. These men and their lustful appetites prey on these young innocent girls promising their parents
that they will marry them. But then, they do not honor their word. And because of the parent’s lack of resources
are not able to take any legal step against these men.
4: The sex trade is a lucrative trade and a substantial
portion involves young children. Beautiful girls are smuggled out of the country for different purposes and within the country
also. These girls are trained from childhood for sexual servitude, highway robbery, deceit, theft etc. The girls who are deemed
unattractive, after nourishing when these girls are 8 or 9 years old, these girls are placed with companies and individuals
that use child labor. This is an organized business. It’s more out in the open than one would think. The
sad part is this government is helpless and seems to be in no position to do anything on a governmental level.
5:
From 149 million population, 67% of the poor population which contains mothers, wives, sisters and daughters, due to lack
of wisdom they are living with a status of servant. And the honor of that family even he is a father, elder brother or husband
feel burden due to the existence of that women or girl in that family. And therefore she is oppressed and helpless due to
her preservation.
6: The poor men draw a veil on their unemployment to terrify the women in their
families. And from them, they also take permanent money for their intoxication even whatever she will do, employment, theft,
robbery, adultery or begging. And if she will not obey or fulfill the needs of their husbands, brothers or sons then they
were treated badly. And she is helpless and unfortunately she would be under one's control. And if any women rebel or not
obey then she might me killed and showed this incidence as a suicide.
7: A man has authority that
he will divorce whenever he wants and also has a right to keep three or four wives. Due to lack of resources divorced women
are not able to take any legal step against her husband.
8: Majority of the mothers, wives, sisters
and daughters will not show herself (faces) to any outsider men without the permission of their father, husband, son or brother.
And these women are living like prisoners in their own houses. This is a specific group which is bound by a women's veil.
In
specific areas, women and girls were sold in concealed markets. Unconscionable men sold their mothers, wives, sisters and
daughters to earn money. And the price will be decided on the beauty of the women or girls.
In many incidences,
the poor parents sold their adult daughters and sisters to a 60 or 70 years old wealthy man and after the death of that man
that young girl will spent her rest of life as a prostitute. The noble parents, for the sake of their fame and honor kill
their daughters and sisters and show as it was a suicide.
9)
Women are often used to settle disputes between neighbors and are sold as a settlement to the argument.
10:
In some specific areas of Pakistan, there
is also one rule. In Pakistani language we can call it "Karokari".
In
this law if any person is caught doing any sexual oppression with any girl or woman or accept his crime then the authority
holding persons from that area will decide that a convicted person will also put up or present his wife, sister or daughter
to that oppressed girl or woman family for sexual oppression. So that convicted person will also treated in the same way as
that of oppressed woman, girl or that family or in simple words we can say "Tit for tat".
13: Gang rape
with poor and helpless girls is a part of everyday culture; almost a hobby for some.
14: In some rich families, many incidences came in existence. In which
the widows were killed because they are an honor and holding a wealthy property and bank balance. Some Widows are set into
prison by the in-laws fabricating false accusations against them. Some accuse her of serious crimes thereby coveting
all the riches from her innocent children. Mostly these things will be done by in-laws or from the mother's family of the
widow.
And likewise many other ways are implemented to snatch the riches from the
widows. For example, after the killing her they will present false evidence to portray that it is suicide or accident. Or
accuse her of serious crime and sent her to jail. Or poisoning her with medications that will make her mentaly sick then sending
her to the mental home where this virtue and innocent woman will have to stay in her whole life and die as heirless.
15: Some religious rich families, instead of marrying their girl with
man they marry her with their spiritual belief principles. In other words we can say that a girl is married with religious
injunctions. This girls will be bound by that injuction for the rest of her life without marriage proving she has left worldly
things as marriage and committed to the service of the beleif of the sect. Because the parents would not want to share the
wealth which is the possession of the lady with other families. This lady being helpless can not prosecute this inhumanity.
And likewise the poor parents who are not able to marry their daughters
and give dowry at the time of their marriage, will mostly marry their girls with a religious book. And mostly the girls disagreeing
with this inhumanity most time take to prostitution.
SUGGESTIONS:
1: We must advertise and introduce Sweet Mothers International
in Pakistan through Radio, T.V and Newspapers
so that the people of different status will have the knowledge of its goals and the indigent women will take benefit form
it.
2: By arranging the Seminars, Walks and other Awareness programs,
we will be able to know the problems of mothers, sisters and daughters, living in Pakistan and by this we will able to solve
their problems in an effective way.
3: Free legal aid services from Sweet Mothers International
for helpless and oppressed women.
4: Old homes for the heirless and old women.
5: During pregnancy period, free food and medical help for qualifying women.
6: Institutes for illiterate mothers, sisters and daughters
to help them in gaining literacy skills so that they will be able to feed their families in a right way. If the mother of
any nation is literate, then she will be able to assist her nation in reaching its goals. For this we must arrange institutes
in which we will educate girls as well as young ladies.
7: Pakistan's
economical conditions are getting worst day by day and with education, we will overcome poverty, helplessness, and disappointments.
In order to facilitate this plan into action, we have to provide them facilities that teach the skills of handicraft, textile,
designing, and computer education. By providing this, not only will we help women, we will help Pakistani society to
develope .
8: We pray that God will provide resources to construct institutes but if
for the time being we are not able to do this, we may help the deserving girls and women who wish to gain education, by assisting
them with study expenditures in the form of scholarships. In this way they will be able to get education as they are not in
a position to get education on their own resources.
9: From the total population of Pakistan, 14.5 million women are those whose parents are not able to marry them
and these women are spending their whole life with their parents. Because of this, the Pakistani Government is stepping forward
and arranging collective marriages. In these marriages, they are set in those families in which the in-laws of the girls do
not demand for dowry. After finding a best match the government will marry these couples. We must also think about these women
and do something practical from the platform of Sweet Mothers International so that we will able to make them good mothers
for the future.
